Below is the timetable for the 2009 Festival of the Erne in Belturbet, Co. Cavan.

While some events may be subject to change we will try and keep the site updated with any time changes or additions to the program. The following timetable was updated on the 27st July.

Grand opening of Art Exhibition by Zara Dolan

Official opening of Zara Dolan’s Art Exhibition at ‘The Goodstore’ Belturbet Railway Station on Saturday July 26. Wine and cheese reception. Everyone welcome. This exhibition will run until Sunday July 3. Open daily from 5pm to 7pm.

Running All Week..
Scarecrow Competition

It’s time to get cracking on those novelty scarecrows! Once again, the town is expected to be awash with scarecrows of all shapes and sizes as neighbourhoods are expected to go head to head to take on the Scarecrow Challenge!

Who will have the ultimate novelty Scarecrow invention this year?
€100 each for the top three winners!

2pm- Floats Parade & Big Marching Bands & Vintage Car Show

Led by the 2009 Lady of the Erne, the parade will travel through the town arriving at the Diamond. Look out for the fantastic street entertainment including a great vintage car show, and much, much more. . Don’t miss the fantastic floats and marching bands. Prizes: 1st Prize €150 2nd Prize €100 3rd Prize €50. Special prize for Best Children’s Float. Perpetual Trophy for 1st prize winner. Also featuring Street Wise Theatre Company. 4pm- Festival Opening
The 2009 Lady of the Erne will officially open the Festival of the Erne on the Diamond followed by The Festival Balloon Race on Main Street. Try your luck! Tickets €2 at the Widows Bar.

Rowing Pageant

Rowers from times gone by take to the river once again for a special pageant. Invitation to all to come down and take a row boat our under supervision. Complimentary sports cap for all participants.
Tickets to be handed out on the Diarmond at Festival opening for this.

4pm Sunday..
Festival Opening

The 2008 Lady of the Erne will officially open the Festival of the Erne on the Diamond followed by The Festival Balloon Race on Main Street. Try your luck! Tickets €2 at the Widows Bar.

4.30pm Sunday..
Bonny Baby Competition on the Diamond

Followed by Puppet show by nationally renowned puppeteer who starred in The Lassie Film 2005, in the Seven Horse Shoes. Two puppet shows will be held this year: 4.30 and 5.15pm

6pm- Sunday, Row Boat Rides
Organised by Tommy McMahon row boat rides short trips on the Erne.

This year we have a Bungie Run, Great crack as you try to run as fast as you can with a bungie cord pulling you back! Judging by the Cavan Gardening Club & Independent Judges.

12-3pm Sunday.. – Reptile Zoo
Ever wondered what a snake really feels like? Or how a chameleon catches its prey? To find out the answers to these and a thousand other reptilian questions, check out the Reptile Zoo in the Courthouse! With a line-up that includes animals such as the Leopard Tortoise to Boa Constrictors, Giant African Land Snails to Madagascar Day Geckos, this promises to be one of the most exciting (and scaliest!) events of the entire festival. Hygiene and safety are priorities at all times.

2pm Sunday, Cavan Canoe Challenge and Row Boats
Get down to Jones’ Jetty for some serious fun today at the Cavan Canoe Challenge. Try your hand at canoeing…. great fun to be had by all. See Festival Office for more details. Search and Rescue Demo includes Man Overboard, Diving and assorted fun events. Belturbet Row Boat Club Tours - Short rowing trips along the River Erne. Look at Belturbet from a different perspective! Monday 3rd August 2009

11am-2pm Monday 3rd, GAA Sports Day
Mass for deceased members of the Rory O’Moore club, followed by a parade of juvenile and senior teams to the football field, and the raising of the 125 flag. Sports afternoon with novelty races, memorabilia display in GAA club rooms

2.30pm Monday..
Scouts Jamboree and Seaplane display
Enjoy the Sing-a-long and craic with the Scouts Jamboree. Sausages, Burgers and minerals for sale. Cub work on display. The group will be recruiting new members for cubs, scouts and leaders on the day!!
Not only that but check out the fantastic seaplane display – look up and you’ll see the wonderful display flying all over the town!

Bald Eagle and owl – details to come
The attraction for all the family – excitement, fun, photo opportunities and much more. Experience Eagles, Hawks, Owls and Vultures flying right over your head or landing next to you. At the Scout Jamboree.

Senior Fly Fishing Final Competition.

Followed by presentation in Flynns Bar Kilconny.

This is one of the most hotly contested events of the entire festival. A classic event – don’t miss out on this year’s epic challenge!!

Fireworks Display & Samba Band!!

Belturbet’s Biggest Ever Fireworks Display at Morrissey Park with Samba band to celebrate the closing of the 32nd Festival of the Erne. Bring your torch!
