About Belturbet

Belturbet is a vibrant and picturesque town in the north west of Ireland and home to 1,500 people. Situated along the banks of the River Erne it embraces a modern lifestyle while still maintaining the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of traditional Ireland.

Start the day exploring the old medieval ruins of the motte and bailey on Belturbet Island or take a stroll along the meandering riverbank from the old stone railway bridge, past the remains of a 19th century distillery and continue on to the ‘Ducking Stool’ (a 300 year old technique for putting manners on local hooligans!) which will lead you to the end of your trail by Morrissey Park where you can make a wish on ‘Ye olde Wishing Chair’ and be sure to bring some bread to feed the ducks!

For a stress-free afternoon why not try your hand at fishing, rowing or crusing on the River Erne. Locals are only too happy to advise on the best fishing spots in the town!

End your day with a relaxing meal in one of the town’s fine restaurants then allow yourself to be entertained by the local musical talents who cater for all types of musical genres such as Jazz, Rock, Swing, Traditional Irish and Samba music!*
